Carli Lloyd scored two goals and Sydney Leroux added another as the U.S. Women’s National Team defeated China 3-0 in front of 12,857 fans at Qualcomm Stadium Thursday night.

The win was the team’s second in a week over the Chinese, and came as Jill Ellis guided the team in her first game as interim coach since the firing of Tom Sermanni on Sunday. Ellis is now 6-0-2 as the USA’s interim head coach. She was 5-0-2 as the interim coach in 2012 following Pia Sundhage’s departure.
The USA added to its record home unbeaten streak which is now at 82 games. The U.S. WNT is 72-0-10 during its current streak, which started on Dec. 8, 2004, with a 5-0 victory against Mexico in Carson, Calif.

Little more than a minute into the game, Lloyd had a shot on an open net, but a Chinese defender deflected it away.

Hope Solo stopped China’s best chance of the first half, making a great save on a 16th minute shot by Zhang Xin. It was the only save of the game for Solo, who posted her 70th career shutout in goal for the U.S., moving to within one of Briana Scurry’s USA record of 71.

Lloyd opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Leroux made a run down the left side and sent a cross to Lauren Holiday at the far post. Holiday touched it back to Lloyd, who scored with a 12 yard blast.

Lloyd got her second goal just three minutes later, when Megan Rapinoe’s initial shot from the right side was deflected by China’s Zeng Ying. Wang Shanshan tried to clear the ball, but it fell to Lloyd at the top of the box and she sent a left footed shot dipping into the net for her 50th career international goal. The New Jersey native came close to a third less than two minutes later, missing on a header, but coming up with a bloody nose, which required treatment.

Leroux went just wide of the post in first half stoppage time, then increased the U.S. lead to three with her goal in the 46th minute right from the kickoff. A long ball off the kickoff was flicked on by Abby Wambach to Rapinoe, who sent the ball across the box for a sliding Leroux, who sent it past Chinese goalkeeper Zhang Yue.

In the 60th minute, Leroux came close to adding her second, but her shot was pushed off the crossbar by Zhang.

The U.S. kept up the pressure, and Wambach came close in the 72nd minute, putting an Ali Krieger cross on goal with a header.

The U.S. WNT faces Canada at 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET) on Thursday, May 8, at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Canada.
